The Survivor, written by John F. Harris, is a New York Times bestseller. John Harris is an award winning political reporter for The Washington Post who covered the Clinton presidency from 1995 through its conclusion in 2001.
The hotly contested election of 2000 between George W. Bush and Vice President Al Gore was the first Presidential election I was able to vote in. I was 20 and engaged to Heather, who would become my wife in 2001. The poor girl had to endure all of the televised debates, campaign rallies, and 24/7 coverage of the election recount that ensued. For these reasons, George W. Bush has captured my curiosity for 18 years now.
Ever since I was a kid I've been fascinated by the President. I can remember regularly pulling out the "P" volume of the World Book Encyclopedia and turning to the entry for "Presidents." It was a two page, color section with the photos, dates of service, and a brief description of each of the Presidents. Even though it was the late 1980's, the encyclopedia stopped at Lyndon B. Johnson since my grandparent's had purchased the set in 1966.
